What is your favorite game and why is it your favorite game?

My favorite game is Half Life 2, I played the demo when it came out and really wanted to get it. When the orange box was released I finally had it. The game's story is just amazing, they tell it in a really good way. Many games have coppied it's way of storytelling, never leaving the first person perspective. Half Life 2 is one of those games you just have to have played! =]

Favorite game is either Earthbound on the SNES (I miss those days) or Ocarina of Time. I know Ocarina of Time by heart and can beat the entire thing in less that 10 hours...but that's just because I've beaten it over 20 times. Favorite game though for storytelling and gameplay is Earthbound.

Ive had a n64,gameboy,ps,ps2,ps3 and a pc and I dont have any favourite game ;(
I tried playing half-life 2 but when I got to Ravenholm I was like *Fuck this, theres zombies around* scary place, video games dosent usually scare me tho

Final Fantasy 7/10/12 > Pokemon > World of Warcraft for me, Think I've spent around 10,000 hours total on Final Fantasy X, great game!

I would say Pokemon but that's not a game...it's a way of life.

I don't really have a particular game, but on the PC I like the Geneforge/Avernum series and on the 360, I like BFBC2.

I like Final Fantasy games. Almost all of them. VII is awesome and still the best in the series. Any RPG with a great story is always a hit for me.

Another favourite is the Civilization series. Civ IV was awesome and Civ V has a lot of potential. I am currently trying to finish up a marathon game with my cousin. We started it mid February and only play about once a week for a few hours. In retrospect, marathon wasn't a good choice for our schedules. 2000 turns later and we are just getting out of the medieval era.

I agree about Earthbound too, that was an awesome game. I never got to finish it because I moved out and my brother owned the system.

I love Zelda games, I own all but the 2nd one for the NES (and any foreign non-ported titles since those are no use to me and my mono-linguistic skillset).

I must say that Minecraft is very quickly getting itself stuck near the top of my all time favourite games list. Nostalgia effect or no. Every update just adds more awesome.

Team Fortress 2 is one of the greatest. Enough said.

having been a gamer on all kinds of platforms for over 20 years I struggle to think of a single game that stands out above all others! Goldeneye for the N64 was pretty damn awesome lol!

oh god that game was excellent. Fun to play, a decent soundtrack, and dat story was beautiful...if you haven't played it or something like it, you don't know about video games.
